A contribution to the study of the effect of wave movements on planktonic primary production
Abstract
Wave movements have negative effects on the primary production of the phytoplankton because they modify light penetration in the water (measurements were made in the littoral zone of lac du Bourget).
The duration of oscillations is more important than their amplitude. Maximum inhibition is found at 50 cm below the surface. A mixing effect on phytoplanktonic communities was also indirectly demonstrated.
