Benthic diatom communities in high altitude lakes: a large scale study in the French Alps

Littoral benthic diatom communities of 63 lakes of the French Alps were studied. They did not show any spatial structure. The main structuring parameters were varying locally, as altitude and lake depth. Geology played a secondary role.
