Dispersal of Corbicula fluminea: factors influencing the invasive clam's drifting behavior
Inês Correia Rosa, Joana Luísa Pereira, Raquel Costa, João Gomes, Maria de Lourdes Pereira and Fernando Gonçalves

Two Asian clam populations were compared and differed in flotation behaviour assisted by a mucous drogue line. Genetic variability and seasonality were assumed to explain the inconsistencies. Populations do not seem genetically distinct, thus mucous production is possibly influenced by microevolutionary events, not being a necessary condition for clam reproduction to occur.
